Music Production

As I said on the blog, I've been dabbling with music production on and off since around 2002.  I started out making bootlegs in Sony Acid and weird experimental beats using Fruity Loops, but after some time away I teamed up with my mate Vega (@vega_uk), using Reason to produce more professional tunes.

Unlike some I'm not seeking recognition or even approval for my tunes, I just like producing my own music.  I don't limit myself to one type of music and I'm not easily swayed to produce fashionable genres just because they're the flavour of the month (such as Dubstep and Drumstep).  My influences are pretty broad, from Heavy Metal to Classical and going all the way back to 50's Rock'n'Roll.  The only type of music I can't stand is Pop, it's the scourge of the music world and should be stamped out whenever it's played!

I've provided links to some of the more "polished" tunes I've written below, feel free to have a listen.

Drowning

This uses a vocal from a Dutch producer which would need to be cleared before it could be considered for release.  It was initially had a quite slow, measured pace but a bit of lucky tinkering then gave a faster, skipping variant which become the main beat, countered by the slow, more "dubsteppy" original.

Summer Haze

I worked alone on this for quite some time before bringing Vega in for another opinion.  I had the idea of those lazy, carefree summer days sitting in the park with the sun beating down, the synth bass stabs just make me think of those moments in the sun when you're too hot to even move.  Although it's not really dancefloor material (one of the reasons Vega stayed clear for quite some time) but I've had some good feedback from people and also some help with publicity from another mate, Ben (@UchimataMan82).

Don't Blow It

Anyone seen the film Solaris? I thought it was amazing, and it had a title track by Massive Attack which really got to me.  Although I didn't listen to or watch the film whilst I made this tune it was definitely inspired by the feelings I got from it.  The title came from a line in the film where Dr. Kelvin (George Clooney) goes to introduce himself to Rheya (Natascha McElhone), and just as he goes to say his first line she whispers "Don't blow it".  I'd check out the film if I were you!

Anyway those are my three best tunes but by no mean all of them.  Some of the ones I coproduced with Vega were his babies so he's taking those with him, many of the others have been cannibalized and the best bits put into further tunes.
